That was interesting... O_o
Oct. 6th, 2009 09:32 pmApparently there's a restaurant about 200 meters down the platform where my train to work leaves from. Dad and me went there tonight, and I have to say I wouldn't be surprised if they got a star soon. Unsurprisingly the place was packed, it's a good combination of fancy and food, and situated on a station insures enough people see you, that is, if they're not as blind as I am. XD The place is called 'Perron 4/5 volgens Tollius', which literally translates to 'Platform 4/5 according to Tollius'. Obviously the place is situated between platform 4 and 5.
The whole thing hasn't been open for a year yet, though, and their story is interesting. As the station Amersfoort Central was completely remodeled after 1997, they've integrated many commercial structures into the outer side, but they were looking for a way to make the inside more 'people-friendly'. They came to the conclusion that the current default NS restaurant was insufficient and asked a restaurant owner to make this one of their branch restaurants. From what I've heard, it was a pain getting everything on the platform: There's an on-ramp about 400 meters down the platform, but they had to get every piece of equipment to the place by use of a cart. As for the place, they used the old waiting room, which was transformed into the NS place before, and it still bears the atmosphere of a waiting room, while having the warmth of a good restaurant.
The food was good and plentiful. The antipasti missto were a bit much, to be honest, but delicious nonetheless. Had a fig (or a piece of it anyway) for the first (and possibly last) time in my life. Two pieces of some saltwater fish with two interesting side-salads and some really delicious toast. My main dish was a veggie lasagna, which aside from some bitter leaves of rucola lettuce was very nice. Dad had some crossover between what we Dutchies call 'Slavink' and a steak. I actually ate quite a bit of that as well, which left me... stuffed to say the least. Their Earl Grey tea was quite delicious as well, although the bergamot had partially migrated from the tea.
It was an interesting dinner, in the middle of the station. And very much fun, since I haven't really done something together with my father in a long time. I can definitely recommend anyone who ever gets to Amersfoort CS and wants to eat at a decent restaurant, to try the place. I, for one, will definitely be back.
Wow, this actually turned into quite a review of sorts. XD
