Of Mice And Men (1)
Jul. 16th, 2012 08:42 amOK, I'm not going to last much longer like this. The reason why I've slept lousy for the last week is mice. A couple of them. I've been cleaning the place up like crazy, but they seem to not at all care about that. I've found one hole in the wall, but I expect to find more today. If I'm still standing when I get home, I intend to get some polyurethane, Alabastine and mouse poison, and go nuts. I've split the rest of my room into three parts, and I'm gonna clean a part up every day, and if I find mouse dropping and/or mouse holes, well... Sucks to be a mouse.
Mouse traps so far have proven inefficient, counter-productive even: Out of the four traps placed (pans contain peanut butter for adhesive and a part of a cheese snack chip thingy for the scent) one was assaulted last night (2AM-ish), and after a lot of tugging (and noise!), the little fucker managed to pull the cheese snack off without setting off the trap and make off with it. I spent half an hour making the traps more sensitive, only to be rewarded with no more activities at the traps.
What they DID do a lot though, was chew on stuff, and I have no clue what they've been chewing on, but I think I will find out in the next two days. I also heard one dropping from the radiator. If they managed to make a hole behind there somehow, I'm screwed, as I can't close a hole that I can't reach. Did I mention that those mice sneaking around have raised my general awareness during night-time? Also, as it turns out, I have an aversion to the critters when I'm confronted with them. So now, every time I hear a noise (which is pretty much every half hour during the night), I am awoken if I was asleep, and my heart-rate elevates to about 120 bpm, which makes turning around and falling asleep again (which, incidentally, scares the ass-hats and makes them flee!). Earplugs have 0% effect!
Here's the best part: I'm generally a big fan of the Partij van de Dieren (Animal party, an ACTUAL political party), and approve of most of their work. Apparently they've also banned glue traps in the Netherlands. That would be one of the achievements I'm NOT so happy with. XP
I'm estimating I can go about 2-3 more days like this before I completely collapse. If anyone has a more effective mouse trap than the classic one, I'm listening. Inb4 cats, I will be getting those, after I move into my apartment. >_<
